Chipper congrats! You're starting to sound like Sam and Tom. Maybe after you've practiced on your stove(s) you could fly around the country and help the rest of us out. (I'll cook dinner!)

Cool, an original safety system, with the bracket Sam mentioned! Nice. Thanks for the photos, Lori.
I think somebody on this site has installed their safety already. I'm thinking it was Thempikes. Maybe one of them will be able to help. Have they been around recently?

Lori, I just thought of something. Could you please post a photo of the oven pilot, with and then without the oven burner in place?
If Sam was right, then Chambers used the same pilot I'm having trouble with. Maybe a photo would help point me in the right direction with my project? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hey, These photos are GREAT! This is the later model, after 1955. Chambers changed from the tall pilot to the Robertshaw Mini-Pilot some time between 1955 and 57. The setup in the wonderfull pictures are probably from a 1957 or later model. You have saved me so much work in trying to get good photos with my old Sony Camera. The photo of the service cabinet floor is fantastic! It shows the 1720 safety valve mounted to the floor. The gas flows from the right side thru the Valve and out on the left to the oven burner and pilot. May I use them on my safety valve thread? Thanks, Sam

Hello, all, Well is certainly is worthwhile to get up early to check this site! (I don't think I have ever lost so many hours to the internet as I have since I found this site!)
Thank you all for the education - photos and everything! My stove is in Eric the Shipper's truck so I can't verify anything yet...
My stove (yet unamed) looks to me exactly like Miss Penny - the same back splash and the same copper handles (another that was on ebay had steel handles). My seller wrote that mine was a '53 though. I guess they were made later too?
So, If I don't have this safety system on I will need one - does this mean I will have a full time pilot light in the oven? Is this a choice?
Is anyone using an electronic ignition (or would they get banned from the site?)
Lori, what are your plans for Miss Penny?

Sam, feel free to use any or all of the photos. If there are any others that you need, let me know and I'll try to take them tonight.
Phoebe, we are working on different polishing and cleaning techniques. When she is cleaned up, Miss Penny will be hooked up to propane and "assimilated" into the kitchen. (I sound like something out of star trek) You can see her progress and Mrs. Watts at http://www.flickr.com/photos/65836302@N00/

phoebe9435;
so far you've only lost hours to this discussion board in the early morning, soon it will be days, then months and years, late at night, during work, any and every time of day! sleep will become irrelevant. let's just say you have been assimilated and you don't even have your stove in your front yard yet!
welcome aboard this fun ride!!

Mornin'Ann,
Boy, you've got that right! This is getting to be an addiction for us! Although nothing pertaining to the restortaion process is very difficult, it does take time. And this includes all the extra time I spend here on the net! I thought I could do this, start to finish, in a couple of months but now I'm realizing it diffenitly will be a long term project to do it right! After going through the articles Sam's posting on the safety system, it's fully sunk in what I've got to do. And the time (and $$$) goes on...I'm glad Laura and I really love this stove!
